Disgaea 6 follows Zed, a zombie and the lowest of the low in the Netherworld, and his sister Bieko. A God of Destruction intervenes in their lives at the start of the story, and Zed leads an uprising with a motley crew of Netherworld denizens.
Zed and the rest of the Netherworld received a big visual overhaul for Disgaea 6. It’s the first game in the series to use full 3D models in place of the static 2D models.
The series’ signature high damage and level caps get boosted in an even bigger way. Max level caps increase to 999,999,999 and max damage numbers soar well into the billions.
Disgaea 6 introduces a number of other changes outside of massive number counts. One of them is Zed’s unique character ability, Super Reincarnation. Reincarnation in Disgaea lets players re-roll their units to increase their stats. Super Reincarnation lets Zed revive and try battles again, getting stronger every time.
That feeds into Disgaea 6’s core hook: it’s a Disgaea game for everyone, NIS America says. Players can adjust settings and leverage reply and retry features alongside Super Reincarnation to fit the game to their needs and experience levels.
Nintendo Switch Online subscribers who want a taste of Disgaea’s zany action ahead of Disgaea 6’s launch can do so for free for a time. From September 23 at 10 a.m. PST through September 29 at midnight, subscribers can download and play Disgaea 5 Complete in its entirety.
Disgaea 6: Defiance of Destiny launches sometime in Summer 2021. There’s some confusion over whether Disgaea 6 is a Switch exclusive or if it’s planned for other platforms. We’ve reached out to NIS America and will update when we hear back.
Disgaea 6 pre-orders are up on the NIS America online store, but only for the limited edition right now. It’s $99.99 and comes with an art book, steel case, cloth poster, soundtrack, and more. Stay tuned to GameSkinny for more Disgaea 6 news as it develops.
